Rent to own is waste of time
Question: Listener on Twitter asks how Dave feels about rent-to-own.
Dave Ramsey's advice: Rent-to-own stores are a rip-off, so don't do them. The worst type is a store in electronics or furniture, where you'll pay for the item about 10 times over before you own it. Rent-to-own deals are done by people who have no concept of saving money and are only thinking about Friday.
Anytime I hear rent-to-own, I hear overpay. There is occasionally an exception, but not often. You usually see these stores in the poor end of town, right beside the payday loan stores. These are activities that poor people engage in; that's what keeps them poor. If you keep messing around with these stupid businesses, you'll stay poor your whole life.
